Hazyivew Runners Athletic Club continues to grow

More people are joining the Hazy Runners Athletic Club and some of their members have participated in marathons.

The Hazy Runners Athletic Club (HRAC), based in Hazyview, is gaining momentum as more people are joining it and some of them are attempting to qualify to participate in the 2025 Comrades Marathon.

According to Sam Zwane, the club’s secretary, people from Kiepersol, Game, Mkhuhlu and Marite have joined HRAC. “As a result of the growing number of members, everyone is working harder than before to establish a professional running club, catering for everyone. We now have more than 50 members. We are also running with the Nelspruit Marathon Club in Mbombela on March 22 across distances of 42km, 21km and a 10km in preparation for the annual Comrades. A big thank you to those who, through sheer hard work and contributions, made it happen,” Zwane said.

The club was established as a result of a lack of activities in the Hazyview area and surrounding communities. Many people joined on a regular basis. “A positive thing about this group is that we are diverse. We wish to be visible in the community to attract more young people to join this healthy lifestyle and to find running talent in our area. We also want to promote a healthy lifestyle among the young and old. All races are welcome,” he said.

Zwane called on more people to join the group, especially the youth, as he says it will help keep them off the streets and away from substance abuse.
Those interested can just bring their running gear and join in. For more information, or to join the group, call or WhatsApp 076 575 7603.
