UPDATE: Court grants MTPA interdict against illegal strike action

The tourism sites that were effected by the strikes included the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserves, the Manyeleti Nature Reserve and the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has been granted a court interdict against the illegal strikes embarked on by employees at various tourism sites in the province since last Thursday, March 20.

The MTPA’s spokesperson, Simphiwe Shungube, said the matter was heard in court on Tuesday, March 25.

“The application for a court interdict against employees who are members of Nehawu [National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union] who are striking illegally at some of the MTPA’s nature reserves has been granted. The entity will urgently approach the SAPS to enforce the court order for its operations to be restored,” Shungube said in a statement on Wednesday, March 26.

The sites affected were the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, including God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels; the Manyeleti Nature Reserve and the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve.
