WATCH | Five dead and three seriously injured in head-on collision on the N4

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said the accident happened this afternoon, Thursday, April 17.

Five people were killed and three suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on the N4 road between Belfast and Machadodorp today, Thursday, April 17.

According to TRAC N4, the accident occurred between Bergendal Monument and Dalmanutha.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said the road is closed in both directions and motorists are advised to use alternative roads.

He said that a bakkie and an SUV were involved.

Mmusi said five people involved in the accident were declared dead on the scene and three others suffered serious injuries.

“Emergency personnel and traffic law enforcement officers are currently working on the scene. It is believed that the inclement weather might have attributed to this accident.”

Mmusi said it is still unclear how long the road will be closed. He said the department will communicate with Lowveld Media as soon as it has been opened.
