White River residents come together to join hands in Good Friday prayer

No fewer than 28 church leaders from 25 churches make up the White River Ministers Fraternal, the body which organises the annual communal prayer.

Christians from various churches and denominations across White River joined hands in praise and worship on Good Friday.

As has become tradition, a religious service was held on White River Primary School’s sports field and pavilion on Friday morning, starting at 08:00. Hundreds of church-goers flocked to the school to take part and enjoy the morning service. This is a regular event for the town and has been organised by the White River Ministers Fraternal for decades.

It acts as a means for all of the town’s Christians to set aside any denominational differences to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday. While it is a solemn day of mourning and reflection for Christians, coming together in prayer and worship offers a sign of hope, as the day ultimately leads to the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.

Various church leaders spoke during Friday’s service, with Rev Gerrit Vosloo of the NG Church White River delivering the main Good Friday message. Communion was also held and special joined prayers were carried out as church leaders prayed for schools, families, local government and offered a prayer about finding your identity in Christ.
