End of an era as Mafunyane Water Park closes its doors

Mafunyane Water Park has been a refreshing escape from the Lowveld heat for 13 years.

After more than a decade of providing thrilling water rides and family-friendly entertainment, Mafunyane Water Park is set to close its doors tomorrow, April 27.

This beloved attraction, located at Riverside Mall, has been a go-to for locals and tourists alike, offering a refreshing escape from the Lowveld heat since 2012.

The owner, Jimmy Brass, told Lowvelder that increasing operational costs, especially for water and electricity, forced the difficult decision to shut the park down.

Over his 13 years at the waterpark, Brass oversaw its growth into one of Mbombela’s most-beloved recreational spots, offering 11 thrilling water rides, pools, shaded seating for families and braai facilities – cementing its reputation as Mbombela’s party venue of choice.

Whether it will be redeveloped or reopened under new management is not known at this stage.
