Amakhosi fans in Mabocha celebrate cup success

Kaizer Chiefs fans celebrated the victory after Amakhosi defeated their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Kaizer Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup triumph was celebrated in style by the club’s loyal supporters in Mabocha Village on Saturday.

The ANC members of Ward 30 in Fetakgomo Tubatse, along with the management of Ditlou Liquor Restaurant, organised a gigantic screen for soccer lovers to enjoy the Soweto derby match between the Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

More than 300 supporters of both teams attended the event. The crowd was on cloud nine when Yusuf Maart scored the winning goal in the 80th minute to end Amakhosi’s 10-year trophy drought with a 2-1 win for the Chiefs.

Amakhosi last lifted a trophy when they won the league in 2015. Their fans and the club had become a subject of ridicule.

It was also sweet revenge for the Kaizer Chiefs after the Buccaneers defeated them by the same score line in a league match last Saturday at FNB Stadium.

One of the organisers, Prince Maluleka, the secretary of the ANC’s Frans Medupi Montjane branch, thanked all the supporters who visited Ditlou to watch the match.

“We will organise these screens across Ward 30 during big matches. We realised the youth enjoy watching these games in groups and we promise to deliver on that. We once again congratulate Amakhosi for winning the Nedbank Cup.”

Maluleke said the big screen brought an unmatched atmosphere of action and an electrifying mood for the Soweto derby. “We had entertainment and family-friendly activities during the live broadcast.”
