VIDEO: Best of Mbombela 2024: City’s finest crowned during prestigious function

With the theme 'Out of Africa', the best of the best were crowned to roaring applause.

The region’s most prestigious annual event, Best of Mbombela 2024, took place last Friday, shining a spotlight on the businesses and individuals who make this city extraordinary.

This year 127 400 votes were cast across all categories, which is the most votes ever in Best of Mbombela’s 20-year history.

Hosted at Church Unlimited, the awards ceremony embraced the ‘Out of Africa’ theme, celebrating the richness of local culture, music and entrepreneurial success in true Lowveld style.

Excitement filled the air as the stage lit up for a dynamic opening performance of Toto’s “Africa” by Bia Swift and Zané. This was followed by a high-energy set by the Penryn Marimba Band, whose rhythmic beats amplified the celebratory atmosphere as guests took their seats.

Distinguished guests included Irma Green (group editor: Caxton Local Media), Adv Stefanie Fick (executive director of OUTA), and Justin Harris (Spark Media).

One of the most poignant moments of the morning was the special tribute to Captain Pieter Smit of the Flying Squad, a pillar of strength in the police service for nearly four decades. As he prepares for retirement, his dedication to safety and service was celebrated with heartfelt applause, honouring his commitment to the community.

The Best of Mbombela awards rely entirely on public nominations and votes, ensuring fair and transparent recognition of local businesses and individuals.
