Winter arrives in Mbombela: What temperatures to expect this week

Mbombela braces for icy mornings as a national cold front sweeps through the region.

Get those jackets and coats out and layer your bed with an eclectic blanket because the winter is here.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), cold weather is expected from tonight and will continue throughout the week.

“In the coming days, a particularly intense cut-off low (COL) system, associated with severe winter weather, is expected to affect South Africa, persisting until at least the middle of the week over the eastern provinces.”

Photos and videos from the public are already pouring in on the SAWS’ social media.

Traffic SA posted that snow is falling in the Wapadsberg Pass and that Tulbach received 38-47mm of rain.

SAWS says there is a 30% to 60% chance of showers and thundershowers in the south, increasing to 80% in the south-eastern provinces. Snow is possible over the escarpment.

Wednesday’s weather outlook seems to be fine to partly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain and showers expected along the south eastern coast.
