BREAKING: Third safety volunteer dies in hospital

A third safety volunteer involved in a crash on the N4 on August 23 has died.

Following a recent incident, in which two safety volunteers were killed by an alleged drunk driver, a third volunteer who was seriously injured has died today, September 11.

Letta Taylor, was assisting at the scene of an accident on the N4 at the Jeppes Reef junction on August 23 when an alleged drunk driver, Zakhele Dube, crashed into them.

She was in a critical condition at Mediclinic Nelspruit, and stayed in the ICU for nearly three weeks after sustaining severe injuries, including broken legs, a broken shoulder and serious internal injuries that led to her death.

Donovan Prince and Zelma D’Hollander, who were also volunteering on the night of the incident, were both declared dead at the scene.

Dube has since been granted bail of R5 000 and will appear in the Malalane Periodical Court again on October 20. He faces three counts of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and drunk driving.
