SAPS detain policeman for reckless and negligent driving after vehicle crashes into wall
A policeman was detained in the Nelspruit police cells due to alleged reckless and negligent driving along Suiderkruis Street in Mbombela on Friday night, November November 14.
The policeman allegedly drove into the corner of a wall and caused extensive damage to it around 21:30.
The owner of the house posted on social media that he heard a loud crashing noise followed by his electric fencing alarm going off.
“I rushed outside and discovered that a vehicle had driven straight through my corner wall in Suiderkruis Street,” wrote Peet Mocke.
“The passenger fled the scene, leaving the driver still in the car,” added Mocke.
Both Mocke and his son checked on the driver and asked him if he was okay. An ambulance and the security arrived at the scene where they were later joined by members of the police.
Despite the family trying their best to care for the man who had damaged the wall, he allegedly became aggressive.
The family even offered him a blanket as he looked as if he was getting cold.
“The driver began accusing us of being racist and continued to verbally provoke and intimidate my family,” said Mocke in the post.
“This behaviour carried on for hours, accompanied by a strong smell of liquor in the air,” added Mocke.
The driver allegedly refused to take responsibility for the damaged wall and instead played victim.
It was only after the arrival of the police that it was discovered that he was a policeman attached to Ehlanzeni District office of the SAPS.
He thanked members of Isecure and the responding police officers for intervening.
