Community to walk for Bongeka in Hazyview
The little girl suffered severe internal bleeding and needs operations to repair her veins.
In a powerful display of community spirit and compassion, Hazyview Primary School and Panda Pre-School are joining forces to host a fun run/walk charity event aimed at raising crucial funds for nine-year-old Bongeka Mavimbela.
This brave little girl is battling a severe congenital condition, cirrhosis of the liver, and requires ongoing medical support.
According to principal Carol Anne Joubert, every cent raised will go directly towards Bongeka’s escalating medical bills.

“Bongeka has faced an unimaginable journey since birth. She was born with this debilitating condition and has endured countless hospital visits and surgeries.
“In 2021, doctors at Wits Donald Gordon Hospital evaluated her for a liver transplant. However, due to severe lung complications, the life-saving operation was deemed too risky. Despite being given a terminal prognosis, she continues to fight courageously, defying the odds,” said Joubert.
Bongeka recently suffered severe internal bleeding, and ongoing operations to repair her veins are necessary.

She is also dependent on a daily supply of oxygen, as her oxygen levels frequently drop to dangerously low levels, sometimes below 60%.
The fun run/walk will raise awareness and provide funds for Bongeka’s critical medical care, continuous oxygen therapy and essential home-care needs.
The fun run/walk will take place at the Hazyview Primary soccer field on November 29.
Joubert is calling on all business owners, individuals, and the broader community to support the initiative and help save the life of this courageous young girl.
