Lowveld abuzz as Honda Gold Wing bikers descend on Hazyview
Honda Gold Wing riders gathered in Hazyview over the weekend to celebrate the 40th Wing Fling.
The tranquil sounds of the Lowveld were replaced by the deep thrum of engines as the highly anticipated Wing Riders South Africa (WRSA) motorcade arrived at Perry’s Bridge Trading Post & Tourism Centre on Sunday, October 12.
The motorcyclists were in the area until October 18 and set up their base camp at Little Pilgrims Boutique Hotel.
The spectacle of dozens of these touring bikes, polished and gleaming, created a festive buzz in the heart of Hazyview’s tourism hub.
According to WRSA’s national secretary, Suzette Grobler, this marked the start of a significant gathering for the popular motorcycle association, famous for its iconic Honda Gold Wing riders.

The bikers travelled from across South Africa, with some coming from neighbouring countries for the annual rally known as the Wing Fling.
“This year marks the event’s 40th anniversary, a milestone that speaks to the strength of the Wing Riders community,” said Grobler. “This special celebration not only honours the history of the rally, but also showcases the enduring spirit that has kept it alive for four decades.”

She said forty Wing Flings mean 40 years of laughter, countless kilometres travelled, and memories that stretch across SA.
“It is a reminder that the Wing Fling is far more than just an event; it is a living tradition, a family reunion on two wheels, and a testament to the shared passion for the Honda Gold Wing.”
This year also marks the fourth time the gathering was hosted in Hazyview. WRSA was founded in 1983 as a community built around the love for Honda Gold Wings – widely known as ‘the bike that makes you smile’.

Grobler said it is more than a motorcycle club. “WRSA stands as a shining example of biker excellence, camaraderie and charity. Members come from diverse backgrounds, professions and walks of life – yet the rumble of engines and the thrill of the ride have brought us all together in a bond that transcends boundaries.”
According to her, the association unites under a shared passion for riding and helping others.
“WRSA takes pride in being the best that bikers can be and encourages road safety and mutual respect between all road users,” Grobler said. “As members celebrate this 40th Wing Fling, they look back with gratitude at all those who have contributed to its story, and look forward with excitement to the many gatherings still to come. The road continues, and so does the legacy.”
