Mpumalanga motorists urged to settle traffic summonses before holiday travel
MEC Jackie Macie urges motorists to settle outstanding traffic summonses ahead of intensified festive-season roadblocks.
The MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie, is calling on motorists to settle outstanding traffic summonses before starting their festive season trips.
Macie said traffic officers will be deployed in large numbers, especially during peak travel times.
In most instances, the Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, commonly referred to as Nyamsoro, will be a key part of these deployments.
He emphasised that Nyamsoro will focus specifically on individuals or vehicles with outstanding summonses and active arrest warrants.
He urged these individuals to act urgently to avoid unnecessary delays when stopped along the way.

“We will deploy Nyamsoro across the province to help us enforce the law and deal with errant motorists who ignore summonses issued to them for violating the rules of the road. Therefore, as part of arranging holiday trips, motorists must ensure that they deal with outstanding summonses before taking to the road,” said Macie.

He added that motorists and vehicle owners who fail to settle their fines will find it difficult to renew their vehicle licence discs or driver’s licences.
To settle outstanding provincial fines, motorists can call 066 547 9825, email [email protected], or visit 36 Van Rensburg Street in Mbombela.
For municipal fines motorists must contact the relevant municipalities.
Macie further indicated that the department, along with other stakeholders, will conduct extensive operations across the province to enhance road safety.
These operations will include:
• Roadblocks and block patrols
• Speed and alcohol blitz campaigns
• Law enforcement and road-side checks
• Rest stops and road safety education activities
“All of these plans that the department has put in place are aimed at reducing road crashes and fatalities during this busy period. I am calling on all motorists to work with the police and traffic officers to ensure smooth travelling conditions. Road safety is not the responsibility of government alone. Motorists must play their part and prioritise their own safety and that of other road users by adhering to the rules,” said Macie.
Meanwhile, MEC Macie is also calling on football supporters who will be attending the match between TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, December 6, to maintain good behaviour.
He confirmed that the security cluster will be fully mobilised to ensure the safety of the venue and adjacent routes.
