Man arrested near Waterval Boven faces charges relating to immigration, fraud and money laundering
A Zimbabwean man was arrested en route to Mbombela with nearly 500 passports in his possession.
A Zimbabwean man was arrested yesterday, December 9, on the N4 between Machado Plaza and Waterval Boven.
Police received a tip-off about a white Chevrolet Corsa bakkie with a canopy that was transporting numerous passports and was heading towards of Mbombela.

Police spotted the bakkie and conducted a stop-and-search, during which they found 475 Zimbabwean, 10 Mozambican and 9 Malawian passports. They also found R147 300 in cash.

The multidisciplinary team comprised the Middelburg Flying Squad, Nkangala District Anti-Hijacking, and Waterval Boven SAPS.

Police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe said that the investigation so far suggests that the driver was planning to meet someone the following day to have the passports stamped, with the seized cash intended as payment.
The suspect faces charges of contravening the Immigration Act of SA, fraud and money laundering. He is expected to appear in the Waterval Boven Magistrate’s Court today, December 10.
