Truck driver gunned down in Bushbuckridge identified

The police seek help from the community for information that can lead to the arrest of a truck driver's killer(s).

Police have released the identity of the truck driver who was shot in Dwarsloop, near Bushbuckridge, on Tuesday, January 6. He was identified as Scelo Sphephelo Nxumalo (41), from Empangeni.

On the night of the incident, at about 23:40, police received information about a truck that was suspiciously parked on the R40.

“When our members proceeded to the scene, they discovered a man lying on the ground outside the truck with a gunshot wound to the head,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane. “Emergency medical personnel certified the victim dead and the owner of the truck was called to the scene to identify him.”

“It is further noted that the truck is fitted with surveillance cameras, and footage from these forms part of the investigation,” explained Ndubane. The police have released a photo of a man who was captured by the truck cameras and asked anyone who recognises him to come forward.
