State challenges Marco Schalekamp’s bail
The State was unable to confirm which province Fochville is in.
Murder-accused Marco Schalekamp appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on March 5 and 6 following an application by the state to revoke his bail due to an alleged breach of conditions. He is charged with murder and attempted murder.

Schalekamp was initially denied bail due to the severity of the matter and concerns that he might flee. He appealed and was granted bail of R10 000 by the Mpumalanga High Court in September 2025.
During the most recent hearing, investigating officer Sergeant Mxolisi Keis said Schalekamp had failed to comply with bail requirements by not informing authorities about a change of residence.
Keis told the court that Schalekamp had travelled to Fochville in North West. He said this violated his bail conditions, which stated that he could only reside in Gauteng.

Schalekamp’s advocate, Piet Pistorius, assured the court that his client had consulted with his legal representative, Malan Muller, and was advised that his bail conditions did not require him to communicate a change of address.
After the state argued that it was unable to confirm where Fochville is located, Pistorius pointed out that it is in Gauteng and that Schalekamp’s bail conditions had not been breached.
The matter was postponed to March 13 for judgment.
The charges against Schalekamp stem from a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of June 5, 2025, near the White River Rugby Club.
Pieter Burger was fatally shot at the scene and Arno van Niekerk sustained life-threatening injuries but survived. Schalekamp was found in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his face and neck.
