Suspect tracking and rescue operations in Mpumalanga receive an aerial boost
Seven Mpumalanga police officers have completed a drone pilot course.
Tracking criminals, search-and-rescue missions and operations in remote areas have received a boost as Mpumalanga now has police drone pilots.
Seven Mpumalanga police officers have successfully completed a drone pilot training course in Gauteng. The newly qualified members are expected to enhance policing in the province by providing aerial support to ground forces and monitoring high-risk areas.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the drone pilots will also offer search and rescue support. “They will also assist in hard-to-access areas during operations related to illicit mining and border policing,” added Masondo.

Senior management, led by acting provincial commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, congratulated the officers, who were identified as constables Nelisiwe Ayanda Khoza, Bonisile Khoza, Xolani Sthembile Buthelezi, Ntokozo Romeo Mtsweni, Anthonio Thabang Mokoena, Elias Ledwaba and Sergeant Luyanda Freedom Nkambule
