Easter holiday travel: No congestion at Lebombo Border

Lebombo Border recorded smooth traffic as officials highlighted faster processing and shorter queues.

Traffic flow to Mozambique at the Lebombo Border was smooth on Thursday, April 2.

This was confirmed by the commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr Michael Masiapato, who visited the border with the Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Jackie Macie.
Macie and Masiapato also toured the mountainous borderline towards Mozambique, where they identified possible points suspected of being used for illegal entry.

They conducted a walkabout at KM7, where heavy motor vehicles and trucks are cleared by both South African and Mozambican authorities at the same point.
Macie said this process has proven effective in reducing delays for passenger vehicles and has eliminated long truck queues that previously made drivers vulnerable to crime.
He also commended the BMA for the quicker processing of travellers and its efforts to curb corruption and the illegal movement of people and goods between the two countries.
