Badplaas police arrest two for illegal hunting and stock theft

Badplaas police arrested two men, aged 38 and 43, for stock theft and illegal hunting after being alerted to the suspects by a local security company during a routine patrol.

Police in Badplaas arrested two suspects, aged 38 and 43, for possession of live ammunition, stock theft, and illegal hunting in the early hours of April 22.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, security officers were conducting routine patrols when they were alerted by a security company regarding suspects detained for alleged illegal hunting.

“Upon arrival at the scene, members questioned the two suspects. One was found in possession of a licensed firearm with a magazine and 15 rounds of ammunition. Police also noticed bloodstains on the suspects’ clothing, as well as two carcasses, one of a wild animal and another of a slaughtered cow,” she said.

Ndubane added that three cellphones were found in the suspects’ possession. They claimed the devices belong to a third individual who fled the scene prior to the police’s arrival.

The following items were confiscated for further investigation:

  • A licensed firearm
  • Four empty cartridges and 11 live rounds of rifle ammunition
  • One bakkie
  • Three cellphones
  • One axe and two large knives

The two suspects are expected to appear at the Emanzana Periodical Court today, April 23. Investigations are ongoing.
