Lowvelder claims a brand new Hyundai Exter in SPAR Win a Car competition

Simply purchasing a bag of rice changed one Lowvelder’s life.

For many, a trip to the grocery store is just another chore on the to-do list, but for Emmah Ngomane, a routine stop at SPAR Sonpark for a simple 2kg bag of rice turned into a life-altering experience.

On April 24, amidst a whirlwind of confetti and music, Ngomane was officially handed the keys to a brand new Hyundai Exter, marking her as the first Lowveld winner of the 2026 SPAR Win a Car competition. The handover was more than a corporate event; it was a festival of emotion. Surrounded by balloons and the cheers of fellow shoppers, Ngomane’s win represents the ‘lightning strike’ moment of every South African’s dream.

Ngomane is now part of a prestigious local legacy. This isn’t just about handing over car keys; it’s about the ripple effect these prizes have on families and communities. For many winners over the years, a new vehicle eliminates the daily struggle of unreliable public transport or the heavy financial burden of a car loan.

Seeing a Sonpark regular win reinforces the idea that these life-changing opportunities are within reach for everyday people. “I can’t believe I won! I only went to buy a 2kg bag of rice and didn’t expect that I will win,” she said.

The SPAR Win a Car competition runs until May 10. To enter, shoppers must buy any participating product with the ‘Win a Car’ symbol and be a SPAR Rewards member. The Rewards card must be swiped at checkout to enter the competition. Each item purchased counts as one entry.
