WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
No, it is not a cryptic computer code, but symbolises the past 15 wins for the Pumas. The club has been a source of pride and joy particularly at a time when the beautiful game is in the doldrums in the province. Mpumalanga Black Aces haven’t tasted victory in ages. Enough of the depressing stuff. Let’s indulge in more good news. The last win for the Pumas came this past weekend when they were crowned kings of the Absa Currie Cup First Division with a 53-30 victory over the EP Kings.
A win in professional sport is regarded as a good result, but notching up 15 consecutive wins must surely be a sign of greatness. No? Yes, it is, I say! It is up there with the greatest winning streaks in sport. Think of Rafael Nadal at the French Open and the Arsenal side of 2003/04.
Jimmy Stonehouse and the lads have a chance to become the greatest Currie Cup First Division team of all time when they tackle GWK Griquas in the relegation/promotion match. A win will secure that status.
As for myself, I might just switch my allegiance to rugby and forget about the misery of supporting the losing cousins of the Pumas – Black Aces.
