Reader’s Letter: Family heirloom looking for owner

Lynette Botha writes:

My grandmother’s brother was Pieter Jacobus Ehmke (Oom Piet), after whose father Ehmke Street in Mbombela was named.

Oom Piet owned Ehmke Juweliers, which was situated on the corner of Voortrekker and Anderson Street.

When he passed away in 1987 a box of old wrist- and pocket watches came into our possession. Among these, we recently discovered the attached wristwatch with the inscription “Arthur Howden, 30 years and more with Croc Valley” on the back.

Buried in a forgotten box for 30 years, the watch has seen better days. If Howden or his family are still in the Lowveld area, we would like to return the watch to them.
