Dear Graffiti Artist.
I spotted your work on the R40.

Generally, I’m no fan of graffiti.
Blame my grandma, who always said “gekke en dwase skryf op mure en glase…”
This Afrikaans saying loses its effect when translated, but it comes down to:
“He who writes on a tree, glass or vase is an a®$e…”
Yet I do not believe that you, dear artist, are anything of the sort. In fact, I think your artwork is rather spectacular.
Why?
Because it is so simple, yet so profound. Every time I drive past it, a childlike wonder is awakened in my heart and mind. Your work reminds me to take a step back, breathe deeply and see the world as it is – through the eyes of a child.
You remind me to strip my thoughts of assumptions and fears that spoil the wonderful present moment.
Thank you.
P.S. I would really like to meet you and write your story. Please e-mail me if you read this. My e-mail address is helene@lowvelder.co.za.
