Reader’s letter: The efforts to reduce fireworks utterly fail

Anonymous writes:

Once again the fireworks rung out on New Years’ Eve, so much so that it sounded like a war zone. The decision by the municipality to allow fireworks at certain areas was ineffectual.

Instead of supplying a telephone number to call in the cases of fireworks being set off illegally, the shops that stock fireworks needed to be raided and all the fireworks confiscated.

That would have stopped the situation to a great extent. The telephone number supplied was useless in any event, as it just rang without answer.
