Lots of action at the Nornan Spring Tournament
The Lowveld held one of the largest fund-raiser tournaments in the region, the Nornan Spring Tournament on September 7 and 8.

It was action packed with 18 women teams that flocked to the area from Hazyview, Malalane, White River and even as far as Johannesburg and Ermelo to compete. All bowlers arrived in good spirits.
The format was four and a total of four games were played. Each one consisted of 21 ends with three skins per game. The aim was to win each skin to obtain two points per skin and also to win the game to obtain four.
A player could accumulate 10 overall if they won the game and all three skins.
Play started off on Saturday morning with a pre-draw for the two days. The bowlers
were friendly, but it soon became apparent that although the attendance was
mainly that of enjoyment, some serious intentions were present.
Nelspruit bowlers Veronica Coertzen, Henriette Pearson, Rhona Pienaar and Janetha Jooste had a fair start but still had to fight hard to catch up with Annie Slabbert,
Sophia de Jongh, Maryna Breedt and Sandra Corbett of White River who had a great
start after the first day with 18 points and a shot aggregate of +37.
The Lowveld heat turned up to a whopping 36 degrees on Sunday and a lot of women
struggled with it. Hats were taken out and sunscreen was layered onto the arms,
faces and legs. Feet, backs and knees were hurting but everyone had the
endurance to finish all four games.
After two days of good bowls, prize-giving started with Corrie Els, Lowveld and Mpumalanga president and sponsor of this great tournament.
Els handed over the prizes to the team winners and thanked Madelein Wilson, Lowveld and Mpumalanga secretary for all her help with the scoring and organisation of the competition.
An accommodation voucher at Umbhaba Lodge in Hazyview was also raffled by Bungalows Bowling Club. Di Sheehy of the same club was the lucky winner.
