A day of celebrating sport

As part of giving back to the community and to show care for the stars of tomorrow and their health, Alan Hudson Select Cars based in the capital city, hosted a soccer and netball tournament at the Barberton Prison Farm.

According to Gideon Khoza of the company their aim was to promote sport and to ensure that children did not end up doing bad things because they did not have sports activities to keep them busy.
“It’s our first time organising these games and I must say that we are going to have this tournament annually because people were motivated,” explained Khoza.
It did not only attract local teams or people, but even teams from our neighbouring countries such as Mbabane Masters of Swaziland and Polokwane Masters.
All players displayed their talent, and in soccer, the Barberton Hospital team won
6-5 on penalties after they had played to a draw (1-1) against the department of
correctional services.

Hosting the tournament unexpectedly was an answer to the call of the MEC for culture, sports and recreation, Ms Sibongile Manana, during the provincial boxing indaba held last week at Protea Hotel where she urged the private sector to assist government to promote a culture of sports in our societies.
“As government we need to be involved in this type of sport – we need to unite and work together with the private sector.”
