Comrades entries for 2014 open

Entries for next year's Comrades Marathon are now open.

According to race director Johan van Staden, more than 5 460 entries have been received since the entry process opened on September 1.
He invited prospective entrants to apply until November 30 or as soon as
18 000 entries have been reached.

“None will be accepted after that, runners are urged to enter as soon as
possible or risk missing out,” he said.
He urged them to train hard and prepare themselves in advance.
“This past race has been a wake-up call for many runners, that the Comrades Marathon is tough and demands adequate training,” he said.

Van Staden further encouraged all South African runners to enter before September 30, to qualify for the early bird entry fee of R320.

“It is our country’s athletes who have catapulted it into its premier status on the road-running scene and we aim to cater for them accordingly. Hence, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has implemented its early bird entry fee in recent years to show our appreciation to our local runners,” he said.
In a media statement issued by the CMA’s media officer, Delaine Cools, runners from
the rest of Africa will be charged an entry fee of R550 and the cost for international athletes is R1 800.

Entries may be completed by using the following methods: online via the Comrades Marathon website, www.comrades.com, through the post by sending the completed entry form with proof of payment to the CMA Office in Pietermaritzburg, PO Box 100621, Scottsville, 3209.
