Barberton wins plate in mixed games

The mixed fours were played over the weekend of September 28 and 29 at White River Bowling Club. Eight teams participated in the semis and final for the main and plate trophies.

The final teams were Nelspruit and White River who played for the trophy. Ben and Diane Enslin, Joao Richards, Jeanette Richards, Madeleine and Quentin Wilson, Fanie Nel and Marina Smith represented Nelspruit, while Pieter and Lenie Briel, Sophia De Jongh and Robbie Ball, Ron Frankle and Carol Frankle, Michael and Vellyse Manion played for White River.
In the plate event it was Marie Saayman, Anna Marie van der Ham, Hekkie Hor, Dick de Terburgh, Martie and Tinus Jansen van Vuuren, Joey Bam and Deon Erasmus for Barberton, while the LVCC (Lowveld Country Club) team was John North, Toekie Botha, Peter Ryan, Maureen Steinbrucker, Brian Coulson, Marilyn Coulson, Greg Anderson and Elinor Storkey.
The semi-finals were tough with Pieter Briel and Ron Frankle playing against each other, both on home ground. Ben Enslin’s team also had to play against Nelspruit opposition Joao Richards’ team. Both teams started off with a drawing game but soon it started to be intense with both teams trying to win and be in the finals.
In the plate event Marie Saayman’s team started off well facing Brian Coulson’s team on the green. The Nelspruit team, Joao Richards, Jeanette Richards, Madeleine and Quentin Wilson beat the White River team of Ron and Carol Frankle, Michael and Vellyse Manion.
The Barberton team won the plate. They were Martie and Tinus Jansen van Vuuren,
Joey Bam and Deon Erasmus. LVCC came second and team members were Brian and Marilyn Coulson, Greg Anderson and Elinor Storkey.
