Uplands dominate in hockey finals

The Uplands u/11 boys hockey team finished second in their division in a play-off against Penryn for a place in the Ehlanzeni final.

It was a tough game that ended in a 8-second penalty shoot-out. Goalkeeper James Emery managed to save 4 out of 5 to give his team a chance to win. Luke Lourens then managed to step around the keeper and scored to give Uplands the win.
The final was decided against the team of Hoërskool Nelspruit and Jay Jay Mathebula shined on the right wing, creating ample opportunities to score. Uplands won 2-0 and were crowned Ehlanzeni champions.
Their next game was in the Mpumalanga play-offs in Middelburg. Samuel Black scored the definitive goal of the season, volleying a bouncing ball into the top corner. The team went on to win 3 out of 4 games, drawing their game against St Thomas of Witbank.
Having topped their pool they took on the team of Nellies with Vaugh van Reenen dominating the middle leading to a winning goal and securing a place in the final. The final was decided on the Uplands College astro. Luke Lourens scored the winning goal against St Thomas to earn his team the title of Mpumalanga Champions.
