Jeanette Richards’ recipe to success

Determination and willpower was the key to Jeanette Richards' victory in the Lowveld Open singles 2013/14, hosted at White River Bowling Club on October 5 and 6.

The hot summer sun challenged the 15 competitors: Marlet Ireland,
Marie Saayman, Zelda Barnardt, E. Rautenbach, Miranda Paiva, T. Holtzhauzen, Martie J van Vuuren, Christie Cross, Madeleine Wilson, Susan de Vries, Marina Smith, Annetjie Moller, Henriette Pearson and Anne-Marie van der Ham.

They hailed from Bungalows in Hazyview, Malalane, Nelspruit, White River, LVCC, Nelspruit, Barberton and Lydenburg.
The greens were fast and in pristine condition, and the challenge was to find the right curve and exact weight to get the bowl as close as possible to the jack.
The format of play was singles and the bowler who reached 21 points first was declared the winner, moving on to the next round. Some bowlers reached up to 23 ends before a winner was declared.
Three games were played on day one (Saturday) and the finals were played on the Sunday to determine the overall winner.
In the finals, Jeanette Richards played against Marina Smith and ruled the green by beating Smith with a score of 21/7. Marlet Ireland faced Susan de Vries from LVCC for third place and beat De Vries 21/6.
The first three players will be participating in the Mpumalanga play-offs in February.
