Senior women take to the greens

The sunny Lowveld weather ensured the 11 senior bowling ladies, Veronica Coertzen, Maureen Steinbrucker, Lettie Ambrosius, Beryl Biggs, Ann Dold, Marilyn Coulson, Joey Bam, Annetjie Nel, Lynn Nicolas, Toekie Botha and Vell Mannion had a warm but pleasant Lowveld senior singles competition.

This exciting tournament recently was held at the White River Bowling Club.
The 11 women hailed from Nelspruit, LVCC, White River and Barberton. The format of play was singles and the bowler who first scored 21 was declared as the winner. The losers were then knocked out of the game instantly.

Three games were played on Saturday and the finals were played on the Sunday morning.
It was a battle between the bowlers and the greens. The latter were running smoothly, but bowlers had to find the right curve and the exact weight.
The final was between Biggs and Nicholas, both playing on home ground. Toekie Botha of LVCC and Veronica Coertzen of Nelspruit played for third and fourth places.
The senior ladies put their hearts into their game but Biggs managed to walk off the lawn as overall winner of the Lowveld senior singles 2013/14 followed by Nicholas as runner-up.

Coertzen had a pearler of a shot after Botha was lying game with four
shots but Coertzen bowled her last bowl and picked up the jack scoring the one shot she needed to win 21/17.

The top three players will participate in the Mpumalanga play-offs in February.
Results of the ladies senior singles
