Bergland’s rugby boys cry victory
Laerskool Bergland's rugby boys were crowned champions in the first-ever sevens cup final held on Curro's soil on Saturday.

Sevens is one of the most widely played forms of rugby. Curro Holdings with Bizsport started the idea to involve u/13 teams in a tournament similar to the Atlantic Sevens.
A total of 10 teams from six schools took part. Atlantic Sevens Rugby was established in July 2007 by the company, Atlantic, a South African Internet service provider.
The aim is to provide opportunities for learners at junior level to develop their unique talents. Community outreach is their main goal. They will enjoy the same benefits as the high schools; including interprovincial participation and TV coverage.
Rugby sevens, also known as seven-a-side or VIIs, is a variant of rugby union in which teams are made up of seven players, instead of the usual 15, with shorter matches.
“We invited all the schools in the Lowveld and Mpumalanga to be part of this event. Laerskool Laeveld, White River Primary, Laerskool Bergland, and Nelspruit Primary made the event. A school from Gauteng, Tygerpoort also attended,” said organiser Derek Putter of Curro.
“It was such a great opportunity to hold something like this at our school. We just love to create occasions such as these for the kids and we are honoured to be part of
it,” said headmaster of Curro, Andrew Collie.
The organisers received only positive feedback and fully support the initiative.
