Tripuma Triathlon Club officially open
A triathlon was held at Da Gama Dam on Sunday October 20 in awful weather conditions, but participants had lots of fun.

It was a community event to encourage people to give a triathlon a try. It was a free event with no times or prizes.
Five youngsters competed (three boys and two girls). They all had a great time and afterwards were wanting to know when they could do it again.
“This was the first year we had a children’s race which was a 100m-open-water swim, a 5km MTB ride and a 1km run,” said race organiser Bronwyn Nortje.
The adult’s race consisted of a 750m-open-water swim, a 15km MTB ride and a 5km trail run. The adult’s ride was extremely challenging and every cyclist commented on how tough yet rewarding it was. The final leg was the run through a macadamia orchard and was just what was needed to forget about the tough cycle.
“It was a lovely route and a great way to spend the morning. Bruce and Angie McQueen were responsible for the course and can be commended for giving everyone a bit of everything which the Kiepersol area has to offer,” she
continued.
The triathlon was initially started by enthusiasts in Kiepersol a couple of years ago. This year the Tripuma Triathlon Club took over the organisation with the objective to grow the sport in our province. Once the club has enough members, it will form a union for Mpumalanga and in time host provincials triathlons from where athletes can advance to compete in the nationals.
“There is a lot of talent in our province and already there are many who compete in the Ironman and other races that are mostly held in Gauteng.
“We have the perfect venues for races and want to encourage youth development of the sport,” said Nortje.
