Hazyview learners wins DAS Auto MTB

Willpower and endurance was the key to Stephan Sikwari's (18) victory in the last DAS Auto MTB 25km for junior boys.

The event was hosted at Penryn College
on Saturday, October 19. Sikwari, who is currently a matric learner at Hazyview
Private College, won R500.
He had to race in cold weather and was one of 200
participants. The route comprised a mixture of jeep and single track with a few
bridges. Sikwari accumulated 23 points in the series.
He also recently
participated in the Spur School Mountain Bike League hosted in Magaliesburg.
Eight provinces as well as Namibia and Zimbabwe donned their provincial colours
and the scene was set for a fierce competition. Sikwari represented Mpumalanga
and ended in the top-20 junior men.
He has accomplished a lot in his short
cycling career and is a well-known face in the local mountain-bike racing
fraternity. An avid cyclist from a young age, he attempts to enter every
competition in and around the Lowveld. His very first race was in 2003, when he
competed in the 25km Bohlabela Cycling Challenge. Sikwari was one of the first
contestants to finish in the u/10 category. He has since entered numerous
others, including the Barberton Mountain Bike Challenge, Pilgrim’s Challenge,
Forest 2 Falls, Barberton Classic, Foskop Phalaborwa, and Sabie Classic. He also
raced in the A1 Fisheries Youth Against Drugs Challenge. In 2004 he came first
in the tourism cycle challenge and won a bicycle and helmet. He often trains at
Induna and with Angie McQueen.
Rahab Sikwari, his mother, would like to
thank the community of Hazyview and all his sponsors.
