VTN bowls draws a competitive field

If there is one tournament that bowlers really look forward to from year to year, it must be the annual VTN competition.

Barberton Bowling Club was a
hive of activity with players from Nelspruit, LVCC, Bungalows, Waterval Boven
and White River. One thing is for certain and that is that local clubs always
turn out in force to compete in this competition.
The club hosted this
popular and annual competition on Sunday, November 10. It was an action-packed
event with 18 teams comprising a total of 72 bowlers facing off against one
another. “This event is definitely one of the most popular on the bowling
calendar,” one of the competitors excitedly told Lowvelder.
The tension was
palpable as bowlers lined up to free that first ball.
Fanie Nel and his team
were here to win, that was obvious right from the start. Throughout the day they
fought hard and their diligence proved true when they eventually bowed out as
the team with the most points.
Johan Botha and his team were not going to
give up so easily though and managed a close second place. The most coveted
prize was however that of the team that wins the most money. That is after all
what the VTN is all about. Once again Nel and his team prevailed. They proved
that camaderie and trust in teammates can work wonders.
In the end they
managed to win this prize too with a total amount of R810. Bowls is one of the
most popular sport events in the Lowveld.
