Local boys selected for Khaya Majola Cricket Week
A total of six Lowveld boys have been chosen to represent Mpumalanga in the annual Coca-Cola Khaya Majola u/19 Cricket Week in Durban from December 16 to 21.

Jason Chandler (Penryn), Dean Carlisle (Uplands), Simon Geldenhuys
(Nelspruit), Siyabonga Mahima (Lowveld High), Matthew Nepgen (Uplands) and Nkosi
Mbendulu (Rob Ferreira) are all included in the squad leaving for the tournament
on December 15.
The Coca-Cola Khaya Majola is named after the late Cricket
South Africa CEO Khaya Majola. He died on August 28, 2000 at the age of 47 and
played a key role in the transformation of cricket in this country into a truly
national sport.
The fact that it has now been acknowledged as the
fastest-growing sport in the black community is largely due to his passionate
commitment to bring the game to the townships.
Sixteen provincial teams will
participate in this event. It is an opportunity for young cricketers to be
selected to represent various teams around the country such as the SA Colts, or
at SA Schools they will get to represent South Africa at the u/19 World
Cup.
It is the first time these youngsters have been selected and they are
ready to start training at the end of the month.
