Riders started at noon and raced till moon

The wining team covered 228km, while the solo men winner did 174km and
the woman 120km.
There were an impressive 68 teams and 27 solo entries. The
weather was perfect and the race was nearly over at 21:30 when the rain started
to come down.
Teams had to complete as many laps as possible around a
6km-course with five bridges over the Sabie River. The race started at noon from
the Merry Pebbles site and included three hours of night riding.
The Lowveld
Chaingang is the largest cycling club in Mpumalanga, and have been in existence
for more than 10 years. It is a fully affiliated member of Cycling South Africa.
The Chaingang hosts some of South Africa’s most respected races such as the MTN
Sabie Classic, part of the UCI World Marathon Series as well as the Sabie
Shenanigan. They also organise the Lowveld Spur schools series and is a
principal driving force behind getting kids on their bikes.
“Merry Pebbles
was a fantastic new venue. The course was stunning and the sun was out all day,”
said race organiser Brett Coates.
