Primary school makes province proud with more achievements
Mpumalanga was well represented at the SA Sport Awards recently held at Sun City.

The province was represented by a Bushbuckridge-based primary school, Daniye who scooped top honours in the category, Developing School of the Year. Their recent achievements haven’t gone unnoticed as the culture, sport and recreation MEC Sibongile Manana was deeply touched and has since congratulated the school for making the province proud.
“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Daniye Primary School on winning this prestigious award. It ranks among the best achievements of Mpumalanga and it is also a boost for the department’s efforts in developing sport at grass-roots level through the Siyadalala Mass Participation Programme (SMPP) and School Sport Programme (SSMP),” she said.
The school won the award after enjoying a successful season in which they won two national tournaments, Danone u/12 and Nestle Milo u/13. Other nominees in the category were Stellenzicht Secondary School and Khayelitsha’s u/18 boys hockey side. “2013 is the year of Mpumalanga in the sporting fraternity.
We are still celebrating the sweet success of the Steval Pumas, who won the Absa Currie Cup First Division and in the process won promotion to play in the elite rugby league next season,” she went on. SMPP and SSMP are aimed at giving young talent, particularly school pupils, a chance to participate in sport, and the outcome of the SA Sport, Awards show the programmes are working in unearthing new talent. Manana also used this platform and congratulated local gospel artist, Sicelo Moyo of KaBokweni on winning the Crown Gospel Award in the category, Best Worship Song. Manana, who hasn’t been shy to show her support for local athletes and talent, was also very supportive of the recent feat by our two SA Idols’ finalists.
