Boys stop the Darkies in their tracks

Last weekend the Nkomazi Mayoral Sports Development Cup soccer champions, Naughty Boys, demonstrated their determination to defend their title, when they won their last-32 game against Hhoyi Darkies, trashing them 2-0.

The kick-off
of the mayoral cup was on November 23, in which 18 streams and 283 teams
participated. This year the tournament focuses strictly on u/19s.
Speaking to
Corridor Gazette after their victory, Naughty Boys coach, Walter
Ngomane
said that, although they were playing with a different and younger team,
they
intended to defend their title success-fully.
“We have in the past proved
that we are the best and this time it will be no different. I am confident in
all the lads who are part of Naughty Boys. Even more, they are young and fast
and are not afraid of trying new tactics – it is a delight to watch them play.
So we are very confident that we will retain the title this year,” Ngomane
said.
According to him, attaining a place in the last 16 this win has boosted
their confidence in retaining their glory.
“Going into the last-16 clash,
this win has been great for the players. They have been doing well all along,
but I am sure they also feel they can keep the cup in the Naughty Boys kraal,”
he said jubilantly.
Due to this weekend’ s state funeral of former president
Nelson Mandela, the Nkomazi Municipality has decided to postpone and reschedule
this weekend’s games.
Today the municipality and all its stakeholders will
hold a meeting to draw the last 16 teams and schedule the games.
