Local athlete excels in Ethiopian run

It takes place in Addis Ababa, Ehiopia, and is an annual road running event with a 10 kilometre distance and draws thousands of participants each year.
Athletes from across the world showed up once more during 2013 and out of the 26 000 participants, Aubrey came in at 182nd place.
He also took part in the u/21 section and came third in a time of 30 minutes, 24 seconds.
On the day following the race, a mixed race was held in which athletes had to team up with an athlete of a different country.

Aubrey’s team mate turned out to be none other than 2012
Summer Olympics silver medal winner, well-known middle distance runner, Nijel Carlos Amilfitano Amos from Botswana.

Together they made a mean team and won a second place in the relay.
Aubrey, who stayed at the Hilton Hotel, spend the rest of the week in Ethiopia and visited many great places, met new people and
had to learn how to eat raw meat and chillies.
“It was a great experience, but I was glad to feel South-African soil under my feet when I came home.

I’ve registered in Ethiopia to take part in the upcoming MTN Kampala Marathon that will take place in Uganda, and I am waiting approval for participating in this race as well as for a place in the Great Scotland run during June,” he said.
Local upcoming high school athletes can also look forward to another award to be won this year – The Aubrey Mabuza perseverance trophy.
