Stars ready to resume their quest for glory after break
Barberton City Stars will find out if the four-week break was timely or detrimental when they return to the Mpumalanga South African Football Association Second Division action at Barberton Prison Farm sportsground on Saturday.
Stars will host Apollo XI and kick-off is at 15:00.
Playing arguably their best soccer in two years, Ingucungucu, as Stars are known, entered the Christmas recess with wins in their last four games.
The recent run has improved Stars’ record as they are rooted on top of the provincial league with 12-points.
Israel “Skhulu” Dhlamini, Stars director, said their fate to win this year’s honours is in their hands, “The boys didn’t have much of
a break as they were in training. Our intention is clear this season, all we want is to win promotion to the National First Division next season.
We have been in this league for too long now,” said Dlamini.
Saturday’s game is the first at home game for Stars to start the New Year. He invited their supporters to come and watch the match against Apollo.
“We strongly believe that we have turned the corner. The spate of poor results we experienced in the past seasons is a thing of the past. Our supporters must come to cheer the team,” he said.
The game is expected to be an energy-sapping affair. Apollo is currently occupying position seven with five points after four games. They have won two, drawn two and lost one.
Stars are in first place with 12 points after winning all four of their games this season.
In their last game on December 7, the Lucky Zwane led’ Apollo held highflying Phiva Young Stars 1-all. On the other hand, Stars walloped God Chosen 2-1 at home.
But these previous results will count for nothing when the two sides meet on Saturday.
Ingucungucu is in the play-off hunt, but they will have to continue with their inspired play and that begins with Saturday’s tilt against Apollo.
