Tony Birds clinch the festive tourney in penalties

The other two teams that made it to the semi finals were United Cosmos and Platinum City

GA MAMPURU – A 16 teams’ soccer tournament was held at Tony Birds sportsgrounds, it involved all soccer teams from Ga Phasha and Ga Mampuru villages.

The tourney started on December 16 and successfully ended on December 31. The team who emerged victorious was the home team Tony Birds after defeating their arch rivals Tsakane FC 4-2 in penalties. The teams drew 1 all in the 90 minutes of play.

Tony Birds received R8 000 for winning the much talked sporting competition in Tubatse while the losing finalist Tsakane FC received R4 000 for their efforts. The other two teams who made it to the semi-finals were United Cosmos and Platinum City.

Tony Birds coach Given Mokgwadi says his team deserves the trophy, “We prepared day and night in order to be more fit. Hard work indeed paid off as we are the champions of both villages. I was happy with the character and determination showed by my players,” said the excited mentor.

The tournament will be played again on the Easter holidays.
