An oppurtunity for cyclists to test their mettle

The upcoming weekend promises to be very eventful as the 18th annual Barberton Mountain Bike Challenge, which is hosted by the local Rotary Club as usual, once more promises to be a great new challenge for all cyclists.

This highly popular event, which takes place on January 25, has grown over recent years and is one of the toughest mountain-biking challenges in our country, with scenic trials taking you up the Makhonjwa Mountains with magnificent views of the De Kaap Valley, through nature reserves, past dams and adjacent to the Swaziland border.
Open to cyclists of all ages, shapes and sizes, this year will see a couple of new single tracks through the plantations as well as a new route through the mountainlands.
Whether you are fit or not, there is sure to be a category in which you can partake. Four categories, namely a fun ride of 20km, half-marathon of 45km, full marathon of 75km and an ultramarathon of 120km are on offer and with 34 water crossings, you definitely won’t suffer
from dehydration.
Entries will close this Friday and late entry registrations can be done at Barberton High School.
President of the Barberton Rotary Club, Nic Eksteen said, “This is the perfect opportunity for cyclists to test their fitness and skill.
We are very excited about the changes to the current routes, as they guarantee to make the event even more thrilling and inspiring.”
