New talent takes to the soccer pitch
The municipality is satisfied with all the teams that participated in the 2013 edition of the Nkomazi Sports Development Tournament.

Speaking during the final games this past Saturday, executive mayor Cllr Thulisile Khoza, said despite some unexpected setbacks all went well.
“We are extremely happy with the turnout for this tournament. We have seen some outstanding displays of sporting talent in various sport codes.
“On behalf of the municipality, I can confidently say we are satisfied that this tournament has and is achieving some of the goals we had set, such as encouraging the youth to participate in sports rather than engaging in activities such as alcohol abuse.
“We had also set out to promote sports that are not as popular in rural areas, such as rugby.
“We are happy that we have successfully hosted the tournament and
final, although it was later than expected due to unforeseen delays such as the passing of Mr Nelson Mandela,” Khoza explained.
“During the course of the tourney we discovered that we were developing untapped sport talent.
“Therefore, we will continue to host these games annually,” she
said.
Khoza added that as part of ensuring the development of sports, the
municipality was renovating its sports stadiums.
“We are currently renovating two sport stadiums, namely KaMaqhekeza and KaMhlushwa stadiums.
“This is all in a bid to ensure that talented community members have the proper facilities for development.”
The women and men soccer finals, as well as rugby were played at the Driekoppies Stadium.
In the women’s finals, NV Gunners took the title with a comfortable three-goal difference, when they won 4-1 against Steenbok Cosmos.
In the men’s finals, Mananga Royal City also secured three goals when they defeated Block A Junior Bucks 4-1.
KaMhlushwa Black Cats outclassed Mzinti Rugby Team when they
won 35-5.
