Aces crowned new Macwabiyeni champs

This past weekend Schoemansdal Junior Aces were crowned champions in the domestic Macwayibeni Tournament.

Leading towards the achievement, the Junior Aces hurdled past Peace Makers, Super Strikers, and ingested Matsamo Swallows in the semi-finals and then denied Double Action the championship in the final.

While Double Action knocked out Babylon and followed by Kopanang thereafter they made sure that Continental did not see the final.

Douglass Shongwe, a Schoemansdal resident and ward councillor, contributed R10 000 and pleaded with the teams to add R150 to participate in the tournament.

“I decided to donate the money because I love soccer and I like to see football players and fans out of the streets.

This tournament will be an annual one and even if my term as ward councillor comes to an end I will continue to fund it,” explained Shongwe.

“It has been good and I am glad people supported it even though the referees need to improve their standard as they sometimes mess up the games,” said one spectator who enjoyed the new tourney.

Double Action’s assistant coach Sthembiso Mathebula is happy with the way his boys performed, but cries foul about the referees.

“My team played very well and I’m impressed by their performance. Junior Aces were rewarded with a fair penalty.

We received a similar one but the referee chose to continue playing. While we were still questioning it, he ended the game before the correct time,” said Mathebula.

Meanwhile Junior Aces coach, Douglass Shongwe, congratulated his boys for such a championship performance.

“The boys have been great since the inception of the tournament and they were rewarded at the end,” said Shongwe.

The champions walked away with R5 000, the runners-up, Double Action received

R3 000 and in third place Continental was given R1 500 and Matsamo Swallows R500.
