A cat fight awaits in Bloemfontein

A lot is expected of the Lowveld's rugby pride, the Steval Pumas this year, who will kick off their 2014 preseason campaign this weekend against the Toyota Cheetahs.

Bloemfontein is a long way to travel for the Pumas, but the coaching staff is very excited to see how the team compete against this Super 15 franchise.
With four of the group’s key players still involved with the MTN
Lions squad, Corné Fourie (prop), Rudi Mathee (lock), Faf de Klerk (scrum half) and Stefan Watermeyer (centre) and of course the long list of injuries the squad picked up in the last week, team selection was bit of a nightmare for Jimmy Stonehouse.
The Lions’ coach Johan Ackerman will only announce his final
Super squad after this weekend’s clash against the EP Kings, and it’s likely
that these players will stay in Johannesburg for a while.
“Luckily we do have a young group eager to get game time, and this match will give them an opportunity to shine, and give us a chance to see them synchronise with our ways. No matter what the results are this weekend, we will be able to experiment with combinations to get the perfect fighting machine for the Vodacom series,” Stonehouse commented.
After numerous rumours that he might hang up his boots this year and join the coaching team, the experienced Corné Steenkamp will captain the Pumas once again this year. Steenkamp, who played in 141 matches,
will certainly have a huge role to play in the team’s success with his
leadership from the front line.
Three of the squad’s newbies, Sabelo Nhlapo, Snake Nyoka and Justin van Staden, are also included in the touring squad, and will grab every opportunity to impress.
