Champ ready for test

Thriston Lawrence of Mpumalanga will represent South Africa u/19s in a two-day test against France this weekend.

The Nelspruiter and reigning Sanlam South African Amateur champion along with South Africa’s number one junior, Kyle McClatchie, Nomads South African boys u/17 champion, Jovan Rebula of Southern Cape and Kenya Open Amateur champion Hennie du Plessis of Polokwane will be
competing in this two-day event set to start on Friday at the Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate.
“I am just three weeks into the new season, but my play is in good form and my recent performances are worthy flag-bearers,” said Lawrence.
The format for the test will be foursomes and singles on both days and the matches will be contested on the Masai Mara course at Serengeti.

Thriston played the Open Amateur circuit. He finished fourth at the Prince’s Grant Invitational and won the KwaZulu-Natal Stroke Play Championship last week, beating the country’s number one senior player, Christian Bezuidenhout.
The four French juniors facing the South African onslaught are Alexandre Daydou of Cannes Mougins Golf Club, Paul Elissalde of Biarritz le Phare and Chantilly Golf Club’s Thomas Le Berre and Victor Veyret.
Following the test, the eight players will complete the 144-man field chasing glory at the 35th South African stroke Play Championship at Benoni Country Club from February 4 to 7.
