Aces have two up their sleeves

Mpumalanga Black Aces registered their first back to back victories since gaining promotion to the PSL.

These victories, one on Sunday against Maritzburg and the other on Wednesday night against Amazulu FC, saw the home team move from the danger zone to 10th spot on the Absa Premiership Log.
On Wednesday night Aces’ Themba Zwane and man of the match, Mabhudi Khenyeza, scored in both the first and second half to hand the home team a resounding 2-0 win over Amazulu at the Mbombela Stadium.

A marauding run from the right side saw right-back Abel Mabaso release Khenyeza, who in turn cleverly relayed the ball to Zwane and the Tembisa-born attacking midfielder put Aces in front in the 43rd minute for his second goal of the season.

Khenyeza pounced half way through the second stanza and headed in his third goal of the season to double the lead for Aces and put the match largely beyond the visitors’ reach.
The win sees them moving up the ranks from 12th to 10th position with 23 points after 17 rounds. A hat-trick of wins should they beat Bloemfontein Celtic in their next match, should parachute Aces into the top eight position.
Clive Barker and his charges will now switch their attention to cup competition as they travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg for a last 32 Nedbank clash against Maritzburg United on Saturday night.
Aces’ next three league assignments are Bloemfontein Celtic (away), Platinum Stars (home) and Golden Arrows (away). Aces
spokesman, Gordon Masondo said, “The win showed that the boys have gained more confidence with the ball and were hungry for success. This also showed that they were adapting well to their new home, which is the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
“The only thing left now is to attract more supporters to our games. We become a laughing stock to the other teams when we host because when
we play on their sport grounds they always have a large number of supporters.

We are willing to visit the different communities in the province but we have to start at home.”
