Uplands show true determination
Uplands College tasted great success against Hoërskool Garsfontein on Sunday.

The first team hockey boys beat Garsies 3-1. Uplands is in 20th place and
Garsfontein in 41st in the latest top 55 boy’s hockey rankings. On Saturday
Uplands played their first fixture in a derby day against Cornwill Hill College of Irene in Pretoria.
Of the six games that were played, the home side won three, drew one and lost two. A highlight was the Uplands second team that won 4-1. Their play showed a game plan that focused on creating space and width.
The first XI won 2-0, with goals scored by Zwe Sacolo and Matt Calse.
The fast and early passing and strength of the squad left Cornwill in the
dust.
They followed up on Friday’s wins with another against Garsfontein, a
leading Pretoria-based team. Goals were scored by Sacolo, Josh Wear and Dean Carlesle.
At the beginning of April, the first XI starts with a high quality mini tour of Gauteng, where they will play St Alban’s College, St David’s and a
regional u/18 club side. At the end of the month the squad will travel to George for the independent hockey festival at York High. They will face Ilk Glenwood and St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown at this event.
It is the team’s aim to do some focused training and to have a clear game plan, in order to improve on their success of last season when they obtained national top 10 schools’ hockey status and ended as Noordvaal Trophy finalists.
