Cubs keep their title hopes alive

On Saturday April 5 the Mlambo Royal Cubs successfully kept their hopes alive of defending the championship title.

They thrashed Langeloop Eastern Chiefs 3-0 in the main match of the day at Phiva Soccer Field.
Langeloop were given a chance to take the lead in the early stages of the game when they were awarded a penalty, only for the ball to find the bottom crossbar and return into play to be cleared by Royal Cubs defenders.
From there onwards Cubs dominated ball possession causing problems for Chiefs goalkeeper, who responded by making some brilliant saves as the opposition fired on all cylinders.
Fifteen minutes before the half-time break Langeloop Eastern Chiefs were punished for failing to convert their chances when Sifiso Shabalala of Royal Cubs managed to put enough power behind his header to find the opening goal before colliding with Langeloop
Eastern’s goalkeeper and another defender in mid air.
With a single-goal advantage the defending champions went into the break with one foot in the last 64.
When the second stanza got underway Eastern Chiefs were still faced with a mountain to climb, as Royal Cubs continued to dominate ball possession and ensure most of the game was played in the Chiefs half.
After 10 minutes of play in the second half Siyabonga Vilane made holes in Langeloop Chiefs’ defence to find his team’s second goal.
William Nkosi provided Royal Cubs their third and decisive goal of the match at the 80-minute mark to ensure that their title run continues.
